I began playing guitar at the age of 13. I was obsessed with music of the 60's and 70's, But the moment I saw KISS, I wanted to be Ace Frehley. Bands like The Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Aerosmith, Rush, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and countless others in the early 80's compelled me to commit my life to the study, performance, and instruction of music.
I studied under the tutelage of Mike Coates at Moorhead State University, and began teaching guitar at the age of 17. I have been in bands since high school, but the most notable ones would be available for you to read about on the tab entitled "Me" listed above. Most notably is the band "GrimmStine" in which I formed an incredible friendship and music relationship with Steve Grimmett from Grim Reaper, as well as my friends from Sons Of Poseidon, and the CD is now available around the world on 2 major labels.
Guitar instruction is important to me simply because I have experienced so much in my life and have learned a number of key concepts of what to do to understand the guitar (and what NOT to do!). I believe I am very good at teaching, not simply because I understand the guitar, but because I understand the students.
When I am not teaching guitar, I am also a:
Guitar Instructor at the innovative Elevate Rock School in Fargo, ND
Music Teacher at the Red River Valley Academy in Moorhead, MN
Tech and Repairs at Schmitt Music (for 19 years now)
Instructor of DVDs at GuitarZoom.com
play in 5 bands, including the worship team at Prairie Heights Community Church in Fargo, ND
I am also the Professor of Modern Guitar Studies at North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND
I am married with 2 wonderful children.
Guitar playing and instruction means more to me than simply a paycheck, I try to instill positive qualities in my students along the way, and teach them not only to play, but the world of music itself (writing, recording, performance, business).
If you are interested in references, I can supply you with some from past and present students, educators, parents, fellow musicians and such.
If you would like to enroll, contact me directly to see what else is available that fits into your schedule by clicking on the tab "Contact" and I will get back to you ASAP.
Remember, there are ONLINE LESSONS available as well if you are not local, or would rather stay at home for your lessons. Please click the tab "Lesson Info" and check it out!
Thanks for your time in reading this, and please give me an opportunity to take your lessons to a new level!
